What is an EKG Monitor Technician?
EKG monitor technicians are responsible for watching patients’ heart rates and reporting important changes to the nursing staff; they often use equipment that tracks several patients simultaneously. EKG monitor technicians may also perform electrocardiographs (EKGs), which read electrical impulses sent by the heart.
EKG monitor technicians work in many different settings, including but not limited to hospitals, clinics and outpatient centers.
Program Length and Duration
The program includes 48 hours of teaching, simulation and experiential learning, which takes place over a 6-day period.
Prerequisites
A high school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
No felony or misdemeanor related to the sale of drugs. Traffic violations and any other issues must be cleared up before the externship. This is the sole responsibility of each student
A history of vaccinations is periodically required to work in the externship

Critical Care Training Center is a certified testing site for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) and National Center of Competency Testing (NCCT).
Our program graduates are eligible to take the Certified EKG Technician Exam through NHA or the National Certified EKG Technician Exam through NCCT.

As a Certified EKG Monitor Technician (CET), they have the credentials nearly all healthcare employers require to perform the critical tasks of administering EKGs, as well as Holter monitoring and stress testing. These tests can be performed during physical exams, when cardiovascular problems are suspected, or in preparation for surgery.
It is designed specifically for individuals interested in becoming a certified EKG technician and for those enhancing their career in health care industry in general. As an EKG Technician, it is essential to have a comprehensive knowledge on electrocardiography, which will lead to efficient operation and maintenance of cardiograph machines used for monitoring heart muscles’ contractions.
The EKG Technician course is an NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) and NHA (National Healthcare Association) approved 50-hour program completed over 6 days. The course will prepare you to take the NHA or NCCT national EKG certification examination
When you complete your training, you will take the National certification exam. The exam is administered by an independent testing organization authorized by either NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) or NHA (National Healthcareer Association). Critical Care Training Center is an authorized testing site for both organizations, so you can schedule your National Certification Exam with us as well.
CET Certification Exam is a 100 multiple-choice questions, 20 pretest questions to be completed in 2 hours
Yes, since both the NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) and NHA (National Healthcareer Association) are nationally accrediting bodies, becoming EKG Certified Monitor Technician with any of this organizations will allow you to work in any other state.
A high school diploma or GED is required to take this course.
Upon successful completion of this program, students will be able to understand the cardiovascular physiology, character of the EKG technician, relevant medical terminology, as well as cardiac cycle and electrical conduction system; prepare for a 12-lead EKG, analyze and interpret the EKG and review sinus rhythms; place, troubleshoot and interpret the 12-lead EKG, as well as obtain knowledge on function of the EKG department in a variety of settings.
